The Incredible Speck

History

James Page had always been a "special" person, with an attitude and personality which had not always endeared him to those more "sensible" minds around him. He had always been, first and foremost, an individual.

His attitude most definitely did not sit well with the Headmaster at the prestigious English academy he attended just outside of London.

After news of one particularly embarrassing incident James had arranged actually reached the London papers (something involving the Headmaster, hip-waiders, a jersey cow, and six gallons of petroleum jelly), the Headmaster lost his tenure, his position, and his standing in the community. The Headmaster vowed vengeance upon Page for ruining his life.

Using an obscure East Indian poison, the Headmaster (who had also been the academy's director of chemical studies) plotted to do away with young Page. The Headmaster administered the proper dosage and told Page that, with the slow-acting poison, he would be dead within the year.

There was no known cure and, as the poison was completely untraceable, there was insufficient evidence to charge the Headmaster (who later died a wasting death from a horrible social disease usually found only in bovine animals).

During the initial stages of his condition, James became bedridden and suffered from severe bouts of nausea and dehydration. It was also during this time that James lost his voice completely.

Shortly, though, he began to feel better as his condition seemed to go into remission. Knowing that his "biological clock" was a time-bomb ticking towards his inevitable doom, James gained a whole new perspective and appreciation for life due to his nearness to death.

Choosing to seize the moment and live his life to its fullest in the short time he had left, James began travelling extensively and doing all of the things that he had always wanted to do.

Over the next two years, James ended up marrying nine women before he realized that he wasn't going to die (as long as none of his wives found out about any of the others). Not only was he feeling better than he ever had before, but he had also begun developing unusual powers.

His voice never did return, but James became quite adept at sign language and eventually took a job as a London Bobby assigned to cases involving deaf/mutes.

His work with the deaf awakened him to the sufferings of others (which, up until now, he had managed to remain blissfully unaware of in his incredibly shallow self-centered existence).

It was not long before a colorfully-clad adventurer made his indelible mark as London became home to the world's latest (and tiniest) superhero ...

The Indescribable Speck (And his trusty stead and sidekick BUZZ, The Wonder Bird) !!!

With his new-found appreciation for life, and his awareness of the inability of people to control their own destinies, Speck became known as a hero dedicated to the true ideals of Life, Liberty, and The Pursuit of Happiness, and as a defender of these selfsame rights against the forces of oppression and conformity.

So strong is the belief of Speck that all of mankind deserves the gift of life, and the right to shape and form that destiny, that this hero, who cherishes life above all, would gladly (and constantly) risk his own life in order to protect the lives and rights of his fellow man.
