History:
This is the story of young Francois Verpaelst. Francois' life had always been difficult due to his physical handicaps, but his cheery demeanour and positive outlook on life served to keep him in good stead throughout the earlier years of his life.
While attending Champlain Regional College in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, Francois was severely injured in a chance encounter with an alien spacecraft.
This craft was a research vessel/scout ship for the Entian Empire, commanded by a Captain Reniak. Captain Reniak's mission was to scout out habitable planets for the expanding Entian Empire.
Although
the Earth was unsuitable for the Empire's needs, because it was
already inhabited by an intelligent species, Reniak developed a
fondness for this beautiful planet so like his homeworld and yet
so different with all of its wonderfully myriad lifeforms.
He was, however, very concerned with the worsening environmental conditions due to its continual misuse by the planet's dominant life form.
Feeling responsible for the injuries his vessel's propulsion system had inadvertently caused to Francois, he had the boy's burned and broken body brought aboard where the ship's medical facilities attempted to reconstruct the young boy's body.
However, being programmed for Entian physiognomy, the automated surgeons made a few ... mistakes.
These mistakes, however, improved upon Francois; making him stronger and faster than before. In addition, the modifications to his system allowed him to make use of certain natural abilities of the Entian people.
Believing
that two wrongs can make a right, Captain Reniak remained on
Earth for several months. During this time, Captain Reniak
trained Francois in the use of the Entian gift to call upon the
forces of a planet's biosphere to perform virtual miracles.
His training complete, Captain Reniak pledged Francois to use his new gifts wisely in the defence of the Earth from all those who would harm it; and to promote amongst his fellow man the understanding that they are a part of their planet and that their fate is inevitably bound to its survival.
Soon after, Captain Reniak and his crew took their leave of the planet Earth. But behind them they left a champion for the forces of nature dressed in Lincoln green and emblazoned with the crimson starburst of the Entian Empire.
And thus was born The Cosmic Ranger.
A champion for the forces of life and all things living. A champion to protect his homeworld from those who, through ignorance or apathy, would otherwise destroy it. A champion of man and nature, working towards a better tomorrow where man and his environment can exist together in harmony.
